# Get Started with 2cloudnine: Setup & Implementation

Getting up and running with 2cloudnine means working through a structured implementation that connects the platform to your Salesforce org and maps it to your specific staffing workflows. This guide walks you through each stage of that process so you know what to expect and what to prepare.

<Note>
  2cloudnine is deployed and implemented by certified Salesforce partners. Your implementation partner will guide you through technical configuration, data migration, and go-live preparation. The steps below outline the overall journey so you can plan your engagement and prepare your team.
</Note>

## Prerequisites

Before your implementation begins, make sure you have the following in place:

* An active **Salesforce org** (Enterprise Edition or above is recommended for full feature access)
* **Salesforce System Administrator** access to authorize package installation and configure permissions
* A clear picture of your **worker types** — W2, 1099, and/or UK engagement models — and your primary billing arrangements
* Stakeholder availability from **payroll, finance, and operations** for requirement sessions and user acceptance testing

## Setup steps

<Steps>
  <Step title="Request a demo and provision your org">
    Start by requesting a demo from the 2cloudnine team. During the demo, you will walk through the platform with a specialist who can map features to your specific workflows and worker types.

    Once you are ready to proceed, your certified Salesforce partner will provision the 2cloudnine managed package into your Salesforce org. This installs all objects, workflows, permission sets, and configuration metadata needed to run the platform.

    [Request a demo](https://2cloudnine.com/us/request-demo/) to begin the conversation.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Connect your Salesforce environment">
    Your implementation partner will configure the 2cloudnine package settings within your org, including:

    * Activating the correct **permission sets** for each user role (recruiter, payroll admin, billing manager, system admin)
    * Connecting to your **Salesforce CRM** data — accounts, contacts, and opportunities — so front office and back office share the same records
    * Configuring **org-wide defaults** for your primary operating region (US, UK, or both)

    Because 2cloudnine is Salesforce-native, there is no external system to authenticate against — the platform lives inside your existing Salesforce environment.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Configure your worker types and engagement models">
    Define the engagement models your business uses. This step determines how workers are classified, how compliance rules are applied, and how pay and billing are calculated.

    * **US**: configure W2 (including benefit-eligible and variable-hour classifications) and/or 1099 independent contractor settings
    * **UK**: configure PAYE, Umbrella, Limited Company, and/or SOW engagement types as applicable

    Your implementation partner will help you map your existing engagement structures to the 2cloudnine configuration options and document any edge cases that need custom rules.

    See [Platform Architecture](/platform-overview) for a full explanation of how worker type configuration flows through the middle and back office.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Set up rate cards and pay rules">
    Rate and margin management is central to profitable staffing operations. In this step, you configure:

    * **Bill rate structures** for each client and engagement type
    * **Pay rate rules** that account for worker classification, overtime eligibility, and shift differentials
    * **Burden and markup calculations** so recruiters see real-time margin when quoting rates
    * **Client-specific billing arrangements** that auto-apply to every placement under that client

    <Warning>
      Take time to validate your rate card configuration against real placements before go-live. Errors in rate setup propagate into both payroll and billing, so accuracy here prevents downstream corrections.
    </Warning>

    Read the [Rate & Margin Management](/features/rate-margin-management) documentation for full configuration details.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Enable time and expense capture for workers">
    Configure the channels through which your workers submit time, PTO, and expenses:

    * Set up **timesheet templates** that match your pay period structure and client approval requirements
    * Configure **approval workflows** for managers and client contacts
    * Enable **expense categories** relevant to your worker population — mileage, materials, travel, or per diem if applicable
    * For traveling workers, configure [Travel & Per Diem](/features/travel-per-diem) stipend and housing allowance rules

    Once time capture is live, submitted timesheets flow directly into the compliance engine before reaching payroll — so labor law rules are applied automatically without manual review.

    See [Time, PTO & Expense Management](/features/time-pto-expense) and the [Time & Compliance Engine](/features/time-compliance-engine) for setup details.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Run your first billing cycle">
    Before go-live, run a parallel billing cycle using historical data to validate that pay calculations, compliance rule applications, and invoice outputs match your expected results.

    * Compare payroll output against your previous system for the same period
    * Review generated invoices for format, line-item accuracy, and client-specific billing rules
    * Confirm that garnishments, deductions, and statutory withholdings are calculating correctly

    When your team has signed off on the parallel run, your implementation partner will schedule your production cutover and support you through the first live payroll and billing cycle.

    See [Automated Billing & Invoicing](/features/automated-billing-invoicing) for a full walkthrough of the billing cycle configuration.
  </Step>
</Steps>
