# QRG Create an Award Classification and Levels Record

## Purpose
The purpose of this quick reference guide is to step through the process of creating Award Classifications and Levels. The intended audience for this document is System Administrators/Standard users. The Award Classification and Levels record is used to define various classifications for Minimum Pay Rates and if required, the levels within each classification. Award Classifications are mandatory for creating Minimum Pay Rates, and Award Levels may optionally be created to further refine pay tiers within a Classification. These records must be created before the creation of Minimum Pay Rates and Assignment Rate Template Groups, as they will be used by automation to categorise and identify the Minimum Pay Rate record that should be applied when creating Assignment Rates for an Assignment.
## Steps
## Create an Award Classification record
To create a new **Award Classification** record, please follow the steps below:
1.
Click on the **App Launcher** icon (see Figure 1).
2.
Go to the **Award Classification** and Levels object by using the Search function (see Figure 2).
3. Click the **New** button (see Figure 3).
4. Choose the record type **Award Classification** and click Next (see Figure 4).
5. Populate the following required field to provide the base details of the **Award Classification** record (see Figure 5):
1. **Award Classification** and Levels Name
6. Click the **Save** button
Users are encouraged to complete all required combinations of Classifications and Levels in advance before the Minimum Pay Rates are created. This is to ensure that when the resulting Assignment Rates are generated, the system can identify the required combinations that are needed.
Users are encouraged to follow a clear naming convention, and all Award Classifications and Award Levels must be unique. If you create duplicate names in the same Record Type, you will experience issues with the functionality.
7. A new **Award Classification** record has been created (see Figure 6).
8. To modify an existing **Award Classification** record, open the required record and select the **Edit** button available on the top right side of the page. You can also double-click in any of the fields that need editing or just click on the **pencil icon** that appears within fields when you move your cursor over the field.
9. When complete, click on the **Save** button.
## Create an Award Level record
To create a new **Award Level** record, please follow the steps below:
1. Go to the **Award Classification** and Levels object by using the Search function (see Figure 7).
2.
Go to the **Award Classification** and Levels object by using the Search function (see Figure 8).
3. Click **New** (See Figure 9).
4. Choose the record type **Award Level** and click Next (See Figure 10).
5. Populate the following required field to provide the base details of the **Award Level** record (see Figure 11):
1. **Award Classification** and Levels Name
6. Click the **Save** button.
The need to create **Award Level** records is dependent upon the pay rate structure detailed within the Modern Award, EBA or Certified Agreement that the Interpretation Rules are based on.
Users are encouraged to follow a clear naming convention, and all Award Classifications and Award Levels must be unique. If you create duplicate names in the same Record Type, you will experience issues with the functionality.
7. A new **Award Level** record has been created (see Figure 12).
8. To modify an existing **Award Level** record, open the required record and select the **Edit** button available on the top right side of the page. You can also double-click in any of the fields that need editing or just click on the **pencil icon** that appears within fields when you move your cursor over the field.
9. When complete, click on the **Save** button.
## Field descriptions
**Award Classification and Levels Name** is the name given to the Award Classification or the Award Level
record that is being created. All Classification and Level names must be unique.
